Smart Pillow for People With Epilepsy

The smart pillow is aimed to predict an epilepsy seizure during sleep, and alert the person's family or friends contact(s) in order for them to come to assist if needed, or call a doctor if the seizure is unusually long. Besides the alarm, the pillow itself offers a set of self-inflatable emergency bags that will assist in keeping the person's head unharmed during the seizure.

A look inside the pillow will reveal its special structure. Instead of foam, the pillow is made of layers of 3D-mesh textile, that houses the various sensors required to predict and sense seizures.

The smart pillow project was done together with Miriam Bohnenkämper, as part of the Designer in Residence program in Pforzheim, Germany.
